Cybersecurity in #dctech has exploded in 2016. But is the growth sustainable? And what challenges lie ahead for companies big and small?
Tomorrow, Arlington, Va.-based Tandem National Security (TandemNSI) is hosting an evening event to discuss these questions with the local cybersecurity scene. Doors open at 6 p.m. for an opportunity to eat and network before the panel starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and include dinner and drinks. The evening will be held in the event center of the Association of the United States Army in Arlington.

TandemNSI is a private/public partnership (PPP) connecting cybersecurity innovators with national agencies to solve security challenges. According to its website, the PPP scouts for cybersecurity startups working on issues in fields like “robotics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, mobile power and wearables.”
Wednesday’s event comes in light of a year of growth and funding for cybersecurity ventures in the DMV area. To name but a few, we’ve reported on how McLean-based digital identification company ID.me was awarded $3.75 million in federal grants to develop their tech, and how NoVa’s new cybersecurity VC firm reportedly raised $20 million and is set to raise $30 million more.
DCInno has reported that, this summer alone, local cybersecurity companies raised $100 million. And reporter  predicted things aren’t set to slow down any time soon.

This is why TandemNSI organized a panel for the evening — “to discuss where the cybersecurity ecosystem is succeeding and where it needs to improve,” according to the online event description. So sign up for tomorrow’s event to meet some of the local startups growing this new ecosystem, and learn what problems may befall them in the new year.
At the event TandemNSI will also name the region’s top five small cybersecurity companies, or the “DMV Cyber Five,” who will be invited for a lighting pitch round after the panel discussion.
