Capital One, the credit card company based in McLean that has been ostentatiously investing in its design arm, announced big layoffs in its IT department.
“Capital One is shifting our call center strategy to allow us to become nimble, flexible and scalable to meet our customer needs,” spokeswoman Julie Rakes told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
From the Times-Dispatch story:
“We are transforming our tech organization with a focus on engineering and simplifying the way we work,” the company said in a statement. “Today, we notified associates whose roles are impacted by this effort.”
The company also announced it was closing call centers in South Dakota and Oregon, which employed 1,650 workers.
Capital One did not specify amount and regions affected by these layoffs. Rakes, however, said the company is hiring, with 500 jobs open in technology and other departments.
