On July 11th, 80 people participated in the NYC Digital’s meetup to discuss the NYC Digital Roadmap. The meetup took place at the NYU-Poly DUMBO Incubator, and representatives from the Brooklyn Tech Meetup and the Brooklyn Tech Triangle both presented.

The NYC Digital Roadmap covers:

  • Access. Bridging the digital divide for all New Yorkers.
  • Education. Investing in math, science, engineering and technology schools and programs so that New Yorkers can take part in the tech economy.
  • Open Government. Making the City into a platform that enables developers to use its data to create tools that serve its citizens.
  • Engagement. Connecting to more people, more ways, more conveniently, both through social media channels and NYC.gov.
  • Industry. Growing the tech industry, its pool of investors and talent.

After an overall presentation, the group broke into five sub-groups, one for each pillar of the roadmap.

From the NYC Digital blog:

Topics covered included support for increasing Internet access and options, strategies for implementing STEM education, creating open data standards across cities and countries, sustaining online public engagement, and fostering local tech and digital talent.

The Brooklyn Meetup was the first of four listening sessions.
