Code in the Schools

Meet Code in the Schools

Code in the Schools is a Baltimore-based non-profit that has been working to promote high-quality computer science education for over a decade.

The mission of Code in the Schools is to empower youth to thrive in the 21st century by providing computer science education opportunities to those who are underrepresented in computing fields. We work to create opportunities for those students who have traditionally been excluded from full participation in these fields because of the structural inequities of systemic urban poverty, racism, and sexism. We believe that computer science is a foundational 21st century skill and that access to quality computer science education is a matter of equity. We envision Baltimore as a leader in the 21st century economy, and we are committed to preparing the youth of our city to be active participants in the growing technology sectors. We know that diversity and representative participation in computing fields leads to better and more equitable technology for society, and we are committed to cross-sector partnerships, collaboration, and innovation.
