Quarterly Business Review calls

What information is shared in the quarterly review calls?

  • Page Views, Unique Users and Average Time on Page
  • Insights into hiring & tech industry trends from across Technical.ly’s markets
  • Information about upcoming Technical.ly initiatives, including events and workforce development efforts
  • For Pro + Premium clients: first party data (Title, Company) for readers accessing your Technical.ly content

Who should attend those calls?

Anyone involved with content ideation/process + jobs posting (Company Builder clients only).

How should I prepare for the quarterly business review call?

We encourage you to share any anecdotal feedback you’ve received about your content, info about anyone in your pipeline (hiring or leadgen) who has mentioned using Technical.ly for research, and bringing any questions/feedback from your overall team to the call so that we can best serve your organization.

Company Builder Content

Who should I pick for my Featured Employees?

We recommend your featured employees are, first and foremost, proud and engaged team members who are representative of your organization’s overall culture and values. We also suggest picking team members you want to “replicate” in your hiring, either in terms of role (i.e. a software engineer if you have an upcoming need for more devs) or in personality/background. We also always encourage elevating diverse voices so members of our audience from underrepresented communities can see themselves reflected in the content and be more likely to be interested in your company.

What do you recommend for my Sponsored Article topic?

For Company Builder Starter-level clients, your sponsored article option is an Employee Profile Article.

For Company Builder Pro + Premium-level clients, you have additional options:

  • individual employee profile
  • team profile (for example, interviewing a few of your engineers to give a sense of the team dynamic)
  • any aspect of your company culture that you want to promote to jobseekers and the Technical.ly community

What is the typical turnaround time for creating my content?

Turnaround time varies depending on how quickly interviews can be scheduled and feedback/approval is provided. We aim for the ~3-5 week range (a week to connect with interviewees and conduct interviews, a week to create and share the draft and a week to complete feedback and get final approval). This process can be expedited and we’ll aim to hit any target deadlines you have in mind.

What are the recommended specs for images on the Directory Page and articles?

There are no required image sizes or limits — we just ask that you provide as high-resolution files as possible. For the Directory Page header image, the page has a responsive design that changes based on the users’ display settings (resolution, zoom, etc), so we recommend a landscape-oriented image with most of the key elements in the center to avoid details being cut off on screen.

Brand Builder & Ecosystem Builder Content

Can my Directory Page include testimonial quotes?

Yes! If you have quotes from startups and orgs you’ve worked with about the benefits of your services, please share those with us and we can add them to your page.

What is Builders Live and how can we participate?

Builders Live is our video interview series about building better tech companies and ecosystems. Our CEO Chris Wink typically conducts the interviews virtually via StreamYard on Wednesdays 11-11:30am (with 10-15 minutes of prep discussion and the actual interview recording taking place 11:15-11:30). You can share dates that work best for whoever on your team will participate, and if it's easier, we're happy to connect with them directly to coordinate. We broadcast the interviews via LinkedIn Live, then Chris writes a recap article that gets distributed as an email newsletter and published on the site. For reference, you can see previous installments in the series here.

Job posts

Can I use tracking links on my job posts?

Yes, you can set any job post’s apply button to direct to a URL, so if you’re able to generate a link with a UTM or tracking code, you can use that to see how much traffic is coming to you via Technical.ly.

Can my job posts be automatically scraped from my careers site?

That is not currently a functionality on our jobs board, and posting is a manual process at this time.

How many user logins am I allowed with my account?

There is no limit on how many users you can have associated with your company account. Please let us know who on the team needs job posting access, and we can create logins for them. As an alternative to individual logins, we can create a login for a general email (ie jobs@yourcompany or hr@yourcompany) so multiple people can access the job posts without having to create user profiles for each of them.

How do I get my jobs featured in This Week in Jobs (TWIJ) newsletter?

Your posted jobs are regularly featured in TWIJ to our subscriber base of 10K active and passive jobseekers. You can also reach out to us at any point with any high priority roles or posts you want to attract extra attention to, and we’ll pass the info along to our TWIJ writer to include the next time you appear in the newsletter.

Additional opportunities

How do I suggest a story idea to the Technical.ly newsroom?

Separate from the sponsored content we do together in this partnership, we are always open to story pitches for organic editorial coverage. At any point, feel free to reach out with your ideas and we can pass them along to the editors for consideration. Additionally, if you have a list to which you send press releases and regular company updates, you can add our market editor emails to it: philly@technical.ly, baltimore@technical.ly, dc@technical.ly, delaware@technical.ly and pittsburgh@technical.ly. Please keep in mind that organic coverage is not guaranteed and is subject to our editors’ discretion.

I have an existing article/blog post that I think would be great for Technical.ly — can it be republished on the site?

Yes! We are always open to publishing guest posts, and can repurpose existing material you already have written or have published elsewhere. You can let us know the topic you have in mind, and we can coordinate with our editors to review the draft once you submit it. Like the sponsored articles, anything published on Technical.ly is subject to our editorial review, so when you submit the draft, our editors may have feedback and changes to help it best resonate with our audience.

How do I get my company nominated for the Technical.ly Awards and RealLIST?

We accept nominations throughout the year for our quarterly RealLISTs/Awards. Nominate your company/a teammate via this form. While we accept submissions on a rolling basis, note announcement timing:

  • RealLIST Startups: Q1
  • RealLIST Connectors: Q2
  • RealLIST Engineers: Q3
  • Technical.ly Awards: Q4

What are additional ways to connect with the Technical.ly community?

  • Join our public Slack for conversations across the tech ecosystem
  • Attend quarterly Tech Industry Partnership virtual gatherings hosted by Technical.ly with insights into our diversity dashboard and national hiring trends.
  • Nominate your company/teammate for RealLIST/Technical.ly Awards
  • Attend our annual user conference during Philly Tech Week: The Builders Conference. Technical.ly clients receive (2) free tickets to the conference each year. Watch this year’s keynote and join us each year for professional development, connections and learning with your peers and a chance to meet the Technical.ly community in person.

Miscellaneous

What performance metrics can you provide for my content and jobs?

We can provide Page Views, Unique Users and Average Time on Page. For Pro and Premium level clients, we are also able to gather first party data info on readers that viewed your content if those readers are Technical.ly subscribers (ie current job title and company). If there are specific metrics or information you’d like to see, feel free to reach out and we’ll look into if it’s possible to share.

Who on my team should be involved in this partnership?

For your Directory Page and sponsored articles, we recommend including your marketing, communications and PR teams for input and approval on the content. Additionally, it may be beneficial for some people on your tech team to be aware of the partnership for certain elements including events, our public Slack and the monthly prompt questions. For the job posts, we recommend your talent and recruiting teams have access to post.

Who should I reach out to with questions about my subscription? (i.e. contract, timing, payment)

Please reach out to Aileen Connolly McNulty, Director of Client Services (aileen@technical.ly) with any subscription questions.

How can I sponsor a Technical.ly event?

Sponsor Technical.ly events by including them as part of your annual package with us to receive bundled discounts; you can also purchase event sponsorships ad hoc throughout the year. The Client Services team will keep you informed of opportunities that arise throughout the year to align your organization with virtual and in-person events during quarterly review calls.

Can I purchase display advertising (newsletter + site) and additional sponsored content outside of my subscription?

Yes; additional sponsored content + display advertising (Technical.ly daily newsletters, weekly TWIJ jobs newsletter, weekly Builders newsletter) can be purchased throughout the year. Contact aileen@technical.ly for more info.
