The Washington, DC Economic Partnership’s (WDCEP) “activation” at SXSW might only last three days, but it’s aiming to accomplish a lot. WDCEP announced a full line-up of District-sponsored events at the yearly Austin festival on Monday, a couple weeks after naming the city’s brand ambassadors.
From March 12-14 the WeDC House, which is a partnership between WDCEP, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Events DC and others, will host music, three official SXSW panels, a couple of startup breakfasts and various fireside chats.
“I look forward to telling DC’s unique and incredible story at South by Southwest this year,” Bowser said in a statement. “We are home to inclusive innovation and a creative economy that is second to none, and we are sending a strong message that the District is open for business.”
Indeed, inclusion seems to be the primary theme of the District’s showcase at SXSW this year — this city’s selling point, if you will. Bowser herself will convene an “Evening of Inclusive Innovation,” during which participants will “discuss how to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem inclusive of all genders, races, ages, and disabilities.”
