U.S. Digital Service will disrupt the ‘IT vendor system’ [WaPo]

Incoming U.S. CTO Jen Pahlka, of Code for America fame, helped initiate the U.S. Digital Service, an effort to bring innovation to federal government procurement, with current CTO Todd Park, according to the Washington Post.

She [visited] the U.K. Cabinet Office’s Government Digital Service. Known as the GDS, it helps deploy new citizen-centric technologies throughout British government. Since its launch in 2010, GDS has emerged as the gold-standard in the global world of digital government. Pahlka, a Californian, would end up suggesting to Park that she spend her year-long stint in Washington helping to stand up “the American GDS.”
