The City of Wilmington wants your award nominations

Two Wilmington award ceremonies are happening in October — and the city wants residents to nominate worthy honorees.

The first is the 17th annual Wilmington Awards, which recognizes community members and others who contribute to the community in some way, whether economic, educational, community-building or awareness, and excel in these areas:

• Business
• Education
• Health or science
• Environment
• The arts and athletics

Acts of heroism, community service, human and civil rights advocacy and service in the faith community will also be considered, and nominations for lifelong awards for Wilmington seniors are being accepted, as well as for the the Thomas L. Cottingham Good Samaritan Award.

The second ceremony is the Access Wilmington Awards, which recognize people in Wilmington who work to increase accessibility for people living with disabilities and their families. Categories include:

• Accessibility to the arts
• Accessibility to resources
• Community involvement
• Employment/business ownership by and for the disabled

Nominations are due by July 7, and may be submitted digitally on the City of Wilmington’s website. There is also an option to print the nomination forms and submit them by fax. Both award ceremonies will take place on October 2 at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building.
