Here’s another competition that the students at the Sustainability Workshop are
A team from the Navy Yard’s project-based alternative senior year program made it to the finals of the Conrad Foundation‘s Spirit of Innovation Challenge, beating out more than 100 entries in the international competition that challenges students to develop STEM-related solutions to the world’s problems.
The Sustainability Workshop’s entry, a low-cost, off-grid home that would help populations that have recently experienced natural disasters, was one of five finalists in the “Energy & Environment” category. This category received 108 general entries, said Conrad Foundation spokeswoman Carrie Taylor.
The Haverford School, a private boys’ school in Haverford, also made it to the finals in the “Health and Nutrition” category out of 67 general entries, Taylor said.
Finalists will present its project in April at the Innovation Summit at Houston’s NASA Johnson Space Center. The winning team in each category will win $10,000 to pursue the project further.
