In the year and a half since Salesianum senior Tyler Brown lost his life in a tragic car accident, his name has become synonymous with hope.
The summer learning camp that bears his name, Tyler’s Camp, launched in 2016 after students from Sallies, Padua and Ursuline chose SummerCollab as the beneficiary of $134,000 in funds raised through SALSTHON (Students About Lifesaving). For two summers now, a sports and arts summer camp on the Sallies campus serves 250 of Wilmington’s highest-need middle schoolers at no charge. SummerCollab’s goal is to close the achievement gap by minimizing summer learning loss for underserved children and teens.
On Dec. 17, the inaugural Tyler Brown’s “I Hate to Run” Memorial 5K will be held at Sallies to raise funds for Tyler’s camp.
“Though Tyler hated running, a difficult task never stopped him from pursuing his goals with full force,” explains promo material for the run.
