Le Cavalier, the Hotel du Pont’s new French brasserie in the old Green Room space, is giving back to the people working the polls on Election Day, which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
“Everyone should vote,” said Tyler Akin, chef and partner of Le Cav. “Every vote needs to be counted — and every polling place needs to be observed and staffed. These folks give an entire day of their lives in the interest of our most fundamental democratic right. This year with mail-in voting so prevalent, many poll workers will actually give several days in our service. We just want to show our appreciation for these generous people. As an institution that has seen 15 or 20 administrations come and go, Hotel du Pont can bring a nonpartisan spirit to a highly charged day.”
To thank the residents who signed up for the sometimes 16+ hour day, 100 Le Cav bag lunches will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis to poll workers who show their badge outside of the restaurant entrance at 42 W. 11th St. in Wilmington from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. (Yes, note that pickup is the evening before Election Day, so you can grab and go in the early morning).
The meal will include a grilled chicken thigh sandwich on ciabatta, house-made pasta salad and a fresh baked cookie. Social distancing will be implemented at pickup for team and guest safety.
Also, yum: Le Cav will also be debuting an at-home menu for special occasions on Thanksgiving. Maison x Le Cav (“Home by Le Cav”) will offer Thanksgiving dinner options in increments of two, with choices of mains, sides and dessert, as well as a la carte options for four to six, such as an extra pumpkin pie or half a roasted turkey, and fresh bread and mayo for leftovers. Guests can place orders from Oct. 23 through Nov. 18 on Le Cav’s website for pickup only on Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day.
