Urban planners, rejoice! City releases interactive map of every city-owned property

Searchable by location and facility type, it's also a win for open data.

The New York City Department of Planning released a web product called Facilities Explorer this weekend, an interactive map of all city-owned properties in the five boroughs.

“The NYC Facilities Explorer is designed to make this expansive database more accessible to planners and city-builders across the five boroughs, and to help all New Yorkers understand the breadth of government resources in their neighborhoods,” according to the project’s site.

The entire project is made with open data and open source technology.

Data points on the map include locations related to: Health and Human Services; Education, Child Welfare, and Youth; Parks, Gardens, and Historical Sites; Libraries and Cultural Programs; Public Safety, Emergency Services, and Administration of Justice; Core Infrastructure and Transportation; and Administration of Government.
