A year after joining the data-focused journalism nonprofit that is now called Axis Philly, its CEO Neil Budde is leaving the role.
The announcement says that Budde proposed and agreed to eliminate the CEO role, though it also outlines plans to use stakeholders and staff to create a new strategy for the group. Axis now has a nearly 10-person team in its N3rd Street offices. The nonprofit’s lone founding funder was a William Penn Foundation grant that flowed through the Center for Public Interest Journalism that was created at Temple University to incubate the effort.
Budde was the founding editor of WSJ.com in the 1990s and took ownership of OpenDataPhilly.org during his Axis tenure.
