Help create a master plan for the Route 202 corridor

Concord Pike in North Wilmington has always been a major commercial thoroughfare for the city, connecting the downtown area and nearby suburbs to retail destinations like Concord Mall and, more recently, the Brandywine Town Center — an ambitious project that included a now-defunct indoor amusement park for teens, manmade ponds and lots of retail and office space that’s never seemed to quite live up to its potential — as well as a home for large suburban office parks like the AstraZeneca campus.

Today, Concord Mall is a relic of another time, and Concord Pike is more commuter passageway than the social strip it once was. But, like downtown Wilmington, Newark and Dover, it’s evolving, with big projects including the BioDome, the upscale Concord apartment complex, the mixed-use campus project where AstraZeneca still holds office space and The Mill Concord, among others.

If you live, work or do business around the Concord Pike/202 corridor and would like to have a say in how it develops over the next 20 years, New Castle County Department of Land Use, DelDOT, and WILMAPCO are inviting members of the community to help create a master plan for the stretch at a public workshop at Brandywine High School on Dec. 5.

The workshop will include updates to ongoing traffic and land use analysis, and a review of efforts to address bicycle, pedestrian and transit needs in the corridor. Community feedback is encouraged.
