“The digital revolution has changed the way we approach almost every aspect of our lives, but you wouldn’t know it based on how government approaches challenges.”
That’s the word from Gov. Jack Markell, who recently had an op-ed published in the San Jose Mercury News.
“Entrepreneurs and the innovation economy are also our best hope for solving significant public policy questions,” Markell wrote. “While companies like Google, Facebook and eBay are transforming the way millions of people find information and interact with each other, governments are missing opportunities to use technology innovations to address societal problems.”

In his article, Markell writes about Uber and Lyft, ridesharing services that, he says, lessen the number of police DUI arrests.
The hope, he writes, is that government and private sector entities can work together to find tech-driven solutions to vexing problems.
“But in an era when technology changes the world faster than you can order your morning coffee, we’ll never keep up if we don’t work with the private sector to find solutions developed outside of government,” Markell wrote.
