On the most recent episode of the Committee of Seventy’s podcast, 20 by Seventy, Technical.ly Associate Editor Juliana Reyes shared some insight on the inner workings of the tech scene that lives within Philadelphia City Hall.
Stemming from the reporting done for her story on the battle for civic innovation inside the Jim Kenney Administration, Reyes spoke of what the community is asking of local government, and how that search has been playing out since Kenney took office in 2016.
“The civic-tech community wants a lifeline into City Hall,” Reyes said. “They had that during the Nutter administration. Once people started leaving, they were worried they didn’t have that lifeline.”
Reyes said that, although things are going well, the Kenney administration is still trying to pinpoint exactly what their interpretation of civic innovation is.
“Mayor Kenney would do well to keep those ties to the community and have people high up in his staff that understand the community, engage it and know how to tap it for its talent and its resources,” Reyes said.
