If you’ve been on Union Street lately, you’ve probably noticed the new traffic pattern that includes a full bike lane and diagonal parking spots. Both updates were the result of years of community-driven efforts by West Side Grows Together and the Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, in conjunction with the City of Wilmington, the Delaware Department of Transportation, WILMAPCO, business owners and community members.
The “re-striping” that began Oct. 30 is now complete, and West Side Grows Together is having a “Re-Striping Celebration” where folks can try out the new bike lane, practice the new diagonal back-in parking and enjoy special discounts at restaurants and businesses on Union Street.
The festivities will begin with a bike parade at 2 p.m. Good times.
Free bike tune-ups will be available courtesy of the Urban Bike Project along the 600 block of N. Union St., along with a photo gallery of the history of the Re-Striping project.
This is a free event with no registration required.
