Try parking a car in such neighborhoods as Fells Point, Federal Hill, Canton and Mount Vernon, and public transportation begins to look like the more attractive option.
City parking is becoming a thorny issue for the city’s tech community: Millennial Media faces parking woes in Canton. Questions have been raised about parking around the month-old Federal Hill incubator space Betamore.
So, expensive as many of them may be, solutions are being tossed about.
Options to ameliorate these parking problems do exist. The startup Parking Panda allows for the renting of unused parking spaces. Uber, the ride-requesting app and service, has just launched in Baltimore. And let’s not forget about the Light Rail, the MTA buses, the Metro and the Charm City Circulator.
Can more be done? Well, yes, according to Eric Hatch, the director of programming at the Maryland Film Festival.
Baltimore Fishbowl has published Hatch’s 12 ideas to improve public transportation in Baltimore. Among them: keeping buses and trains going until 3 a.m., put Light Rail ticket machines on both sides of the tracks and scrap the idea for a trolley on Charles St.
