In San Francisco, he was impressed by how each night there was a meaningful event for technologists. Then, back home in New York, he found the same thing was happening here.
That’s how Chad Dickerson, CEO of Williamsburg’s Etsy, knew the New York tech scene had arrived, as he said on New Tech City, in a story that gives the 15 minute version of the rise of tech as a major part of the city’s economy.
The focus on the item was a report card for outgoing Mayor Bloomberg, in which his business background was praised but the credit for growing New York’s tech scene was a bit more divided.
It wasn’t all good news, though. Local developer Mike Caprio calls for municipal broadband in the piece, describing Brooklyn’s internet access as that of a “backwater.” It’s a call New Tech City said it heard repeatedly from technologists here.
