The State of Delaware is offering totally Delaware vaccine incentives

A full-ride college scholarship, Blue Rocks and Firefly tickets, and low-number license plates are among the prizes to be raffled off to residents registered in the state's vaccination system.

The top prize in the Sate of Delaware’s DEWINS! vaccination incentive raffle? Two low-number license plates. You can’t get much more Delaware than that.

(If you’re new around here, Delaware license plate numbers have the unique distinction of being transferable, and low-number plates with one to five digits are bought and sold for big money).

Along with the plates, one vaccinated Delawarean will also receive $302,000, which is less than what one couple paid for No. 14 plate in 2016.

If you do win, and have no interest in the prestige of a low-number plate, you’ll realistically be able to sell them for $5,000 to $25,000. Which still isn’t too shabby.

The raffle will be run by the Delaware Lottery, which will take secure anonymized codes from DelVax, Delaware’s vaccination registration system, and put them through a randomizer to generate a winner. You don’t have to do anything to enter if you received a COVID-19 vaccination in Delaware — unless you work for the state, in which case you’re ineligible.

The big raffle is for anyone vaccinated any time since they started administering in Delaware. But for those age 12 and up who haven’t been vaccinated yet, there are additional incentives to encourage residents to vaccinate between now and June 29:

  • Delaware youth aged 12 to 17 will be entered into a raffle to win a full scholarship to a Delaware university, as well as prize packages from Funland in Rehoboth Beach, the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Delmarva Shorebirds.
  • Delawareans 18 and over will be entered into weekly lotteries where two vaccinated residents a week will win $5,000, with additional drawings for tickets and camping at Firefly Music Festival, Delaware State Parks passes, a one-year DART pass, free tolls within Delaware and a four-day vacation package to a destination in Delaware.

Some Delaware small businesses will also offer customer incentives to vaccinated Delawareans, and will be eligible for reimbursement through the Delaware Division of Small Business’ Small Business Incentive Fund for qualifying businesses, including restaurants, bars and breweries. Grants of up to $5,000 a piece are available to up to 200 small businesses that offer vaccination incentives such as free and discounted menu items.

The goal of the incentive programs is to bring Delaware’s vaccination rate, which hit the 50% benchmark in mid May, up to 70%.

Delawareans vaccinated at walk-in Delaware Tech vaccination sites in Wilmington, Dover and Georgetown from May 25 to June 29, will also receive a $10 gift card. To get more vaccination info, go to Delaware’s vaccination homepage.
