Delaware tourist attractions will glow blue for #ThanksDE social media tribute

Local businesses and residents are encouraged to participate in the online event.

The Delaware Tourism Office will be bathing several of the state’s tourist attractions in blue light at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 4, as a tribute to healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers — but they don’t want you to come out and gather to see it. Instead, Delawareans are encouraged to experience the statewide event using the hashtag #ThanksDE on social media.

Four attractions will be lit up: the Grand Opera House and the Hilton Wilmington-Christiana in New Castle County, the monster statue at Dover International Speedway in Kent County and the Rehoboth Beach bandstand in Sussex County.

Local businesses are also encouraged to post using #ThanksDE to share what they’re doing in the community and to thank essential workers. Two businesses so far will be accepting donations to help feed frontline workers during the event: High 5 Hospitality (Limestone BBQ and Bourbon, Stone Balloon, eggspectation and Buffalo Wild Wings) and La Baguette Bakery & Catering. La Vida Hospitality (Crooked Hammock Brewery, Fork & Flask and Taco Reho) is also working to provide support and resources to food banks, local shelters, nonprofits and community groups.

People are also encouraged to post photos of themselves with the #ThanksDE hashtag, either at home or of past trips to the beach, raceway and other Delaware destinations.
