Maryland launches cybersecurity panel [Cybersecurity Roundup]

The Maryland Cybersecurity Roundtable holds its first meeting Thursday, the Baltimore Business Journal reports. The panel includes U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Gov. Martin O’Malley, KEYW CEO Len Moodispaw and Jeffrey Wells, who oversees cyber-development issues for the state’s Department of Business and Economic Development. 
Mikulski, an outspoken advocate of Maryland’s cybersecurity sector, recently introducing a bill to fund a cybersecurity center at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, as Technical.ly Baltimore reported. Moodispaw, the roundtable’s president, said this week that cybersecurity firms need disciplined workers more than policy wonks. Moodispaw told the Baltimore Business Journal that companies like his “need people who have the mathematical skills and we need students that have the discipline to work in this field.”
Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation was awarded an EARN (Employment Advancement Right Now) grant in cybersecurity, according to MD Biz News. The grant was one of 28 in fields that also included IT, biotech and healthcare.
Fulton-based AirPatrol joined Good Technology’s “partner ecosystem” this week, according to a company release. AirPatrol, which was acquired in April by Sysorex Global Holdings, builds mobile device security systems for businesses and institutions. The Good Technology framework will allow organizations to change security permissions based on the device’s location and owner. The new product, ZoneDefense for Good, will be out in the second quarter of 2014.
