Open Data Challenge 2018 showed that, when given the opportunity, regular citizens can contribute great ideas and valuable feedback when it comes to civic issues.

The City of Wilmington, WILMAPCO and DelDOT are looking for more input from the community (minus the dev aspect for now).

Five upcoming public events this month will tackle the topics of Wilmington’s infrastructure and transportation, and residents are urged to get involved.

Mayor Mike Purzycki announced the events, which include four workshops and an informational open house detailing several neighborhood initiatives, including the South Wilmington Wetlands Park, the 76ers Sports Facility and the Christina River Bridge.

The focus of several of the workshops is transportation infrastructure and redevelopment projects such as the 12th Street Connector.

The events are:

Tuesday, June 19 from 6–8 p.m.

• Open House at the Elbert-Palmer Elementary School gym (1210 Lobdell St.)

Projects presented include the South Wilmington Wetland Park, Southbridge Streetscape (Phase II), the Christina River Bridge, the South Wilmington Transportation Network (Garasches Lane), Clean Waterways Wilmington, the Philadelphia 76ers Sports Facility and other ongoing neighborhood initiatives. Wednesday, June 20 from 4–7 p.m.

• Transportation Workshop at the Wilmington Public Library

This workshop will explore three new studies — the 12th Street Connector Alignment Study, East 7th Street Peninsula Study and the Safety and Capacity Improvement Study for the 5-Point Intersection on Maryland Avenue — as well as several other transportation projects. Click here for more.

•  7^th Street Peninsula Study Community Workshop at the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation (1124 E. 7th St.)

A presentation and roundtable discussion on preparing a Master Plan for the 7^th Street Peninsula, including the identification and prioritization of necessary roadway and utility improvements. Click here to for more.

• 12^th Street Connector Transportation Improvement Study Workshop at the Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club

Organizers write: “The purpose of this study is to create a reimagined 12th Street corridor utilizing new transportation patterns that generate economic growth and provide more efficient and multi-modal connections to access the area. Transportation investments will also incorporate community enhancements and green infrastructure to help beautify the neighborhood and reduce flood risk.” To take the survey, click here. • Route 9 Corridor Master Plan Workshop at the Rose Hill Community Center in New Castle
