Along the Hudson Street side of the Can Company just off Boston Street in Canton, the signs demarcating Area 43 restricted parking have come down.

On Feb. 4, Baltimore City Council voted down a bill that would have extended Residential Permit Parking in Area 43, in Canton, which runs along the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Hudson Street, as the Baltimore City Paper reported. For those who work for companies with offices inside the Can Company, this means parking on Hudson is no longer permitted for only two hours. In addition, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has signed a five-year moratorium on permit parking in the neighborhood, according to the Baltimore Sun.
As Technically Baltimore reported in December, parking has become a concern for tech companies like Millennial Media that occupy space in the Can Company. With fewer places to park, or restrictions on spaces that presently exist, there’s a limit to how many employees companies can bring on.
The Baltimore Sun reports that “[c]ity officials are trying a range of approaches to address parking in Canton, including expanding what is known as ‘reverse angle parking’ along streets wide enough to accommodate it and championing alternatives for car owners, such as car sharing and bicycling, according to a spokeswoman for the Parking Authority.”
