Brooklyn designer makes calling your political reps way easier

One thing people seem to be taking an interest in lately is talking about Donald Trump. Specifically, many Brooklynites are less than thrilled with his political appointments and legal issues, to say nothing of his stance on the cast of “Hamilton.”

But what can we do about it all that’s more constructive than making darkly ironic jokes on social media? Well, Brooklyn designer Erica Gorochow created a pretty simple site where you can type in your address and the site will send you the contact information for your political representatives, significantly decreasing the pain points between you and calling the people who represent you to make your grievances heard.
It’s called Call Trump Out, and it’s best viewed from a phone, where you can download the numbers directly into your contacts. It works on a desktop, too, where it downloads a vCard with the information.
Gorochow is the head of the East Williamsburg-based creative studio PepRally, which specializes in “illustration-based motion design for established and emerging screens.”
On Twitter, Gorochow explained she got the idea for Call Trump Out from the We’re His Problem Now calling sheet, which has gained a lot of traction on Tumblr. The sheet is a rundown of how and when it’s most effective to call your representatives. It includes scripts to use when calling and encourages collaboration.

According to a former Congressional staffer, calling representatives at their district office, rather than their D.C. office, is a more effective way of getting your voice heard. Calling is also way more effective than using social media or writing a letter. Gorochow thought it would be easier to get into the habit of calling our politicians if we already had their numbers saved in our phones
The core of innovation is solving problems and inefficiencies. Call Trump Out is a great example of how a little know-how on the part of a creative techie got me to add Chuck Schumer’s number to my contacts.
