Among $3.1 billion in 2011 venture capital investment in the New York region, nearly 78 percent, or $2.4 billion happens in the city itself.

It’s the among the largest urban investment percentages in the country, beyond just the newer cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, Austin and Seattle. As Richard Florida digests for the Atlantic, it’s part of a growing trend of tech being an urban phenomenon.
