Ponder the future of food at Edible’s Food Loves Tech expo

Enthusiasts of alternative proteins and cultured coffee rejoice, your moment has come.

The second-annual Food Loves Tech expo is just around the corner. Hosted by food magazines Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan, the event unfolds Nov. 3–4 at Industry City in Sunset Park.

“We chose Industry City as our venue this year  because it is a community hub for innovation and creativity,” said Meg Savage, head of business development for Edible Manhattan. “Many of our favorite local purveyors have set up shop there. It’s a mix of old and new — and the creative and entrepreneurial energy that runs through its hallways is inspiring and motivating.”

The lineup features demos from innovators and industry leaders looking to engage an audience focused on the future of food and drink. “Education by entertainment” is the motto — come ready to open your mind (and your mouth). Tickets cost $75 a day.

The event kicks off on Friday with the $100 Future of the Cocktail event. Drinks are in the hands of expert mixologists and bartenders (including the Gramercy Tavern team) who have designed cocktails that feature several innovative brewing and distilling technologies. Tickets are sold separately, and there are only 200 available.

But it’s not just about eating and drinking. The Food Loves Tech lineup includes several brands working in on the food production side.

From aquaponics company Edenworks to Spira, a company with technology to grow fresh spirulina anywhere, the expo promises a diverse introduction into how industry leaders are building the future of agriculture and nourishment. It’s a sector Brooklyn is becoming increasingly known for.

“Being able to take the stories we feature and tell them tangibly is a dream for us,” said Savage. “Food Loves Tech goes deeper, and it is important to us to elevate our local food system.”
