What Charlie O’Donnell has to say about being at the Barclays Center shooting yesterday

The Brooklyn venture capitalist heard the shots while biking nearby. It made him think about gun control and education and financial disparities in the borough.

Charlie O’Donnell said he called the police yesterday afternoon after hearing the gunshots in Downtown Brooklyn that sent one man to the hospital.

The shooting — in broad daylight, at a busy intersection outside the Barclays Center — has been all over the news this week. Police are still looking for the shooter.

O’Donnell, a lifelong Brooklynite and the founder at venture capital fund Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, took a moment to reflect on the experience on his blog, This Is Going To Be Big.

“I didn’t grow up in a neighborhood where gunshots were a thing—and I know I am incredibly lucky for that,” he wrote. “That’s why when I pulled up to the corner of Atlantic and Fourth by the Barclay’s Center yesterday at a couple of minutes after 2pm, the sound of gunfire was pretty startling, and it’s not something I can easily shake.”
