Which Brooklyn nabes use the subway most and least? Check out this map

Not all neighborhoods use the subway equally. Some interesting finds in the data.

Subway ridership by Zip code. (Map by CARTO user Sheehan)
The subway is not a commodity which is used equally all over the place. Some neighborhoods use the subway way more than others.

Here comes a map by CARTO user Sheehan, 2014 NY Subway Ridership by ZIP Code, which breaks down which nabes are the most on the go.
The map’s got some neat features. If you click on any of the stops, it will show you the yearly ridership for 2014. The always-crazy Bedford L had 9.9 million riders that year. Meanwhile, the Central Avenue M station in Bushwick had one-tenth as many riders, with 970,000.

The map’s also got a sliding bar with total subway riders per Zip code. So here are the top three and bottom three Zip codes for subway travel in Brooklyn:
Most riders:

  • 11201 Brooklyn Heights/Dumbo: 65 million
  • 11217 Boerum Hill/Fort Green/Downtown Brooklyn: 41 million
  • 11211 Williamsburg/East Williamsburg: 26 million

Fewest riders:

  • 11228 Dyker Heights: 1.5 million
  • 11222 Greenpoint: 5.2 million
  • 11235 Canarsie: 5.4 million
