Wednesday: Find out what the heck is going on with the Ethereum blockchain

In the wake of some serious cybertheft, blockchain experts will talk about the future of the platform and demo some new products.

Wednesday night at company headquarters, Brooklyn’s reigning Ethereum experts, ConsenSys, will host a night of discussion on the recently hacked blockchain platform.
The big news in the blockchain world last week was that hackers had managed to steal more than $50 million in ether from the DAO, or Decentralized Autonomous Organization fund. This prompted a response from the cofounder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, which included these surrealistically futuristic instructions:

Miners and mining pools should resume allowing transactions as normal, wait for the soft fork code and stand ready to download and run it if they agree with this path forward for the Ethereum ecosystem. DAO token holders and ethereum users should sit tight and remain calm. Exchanges should feel safe in resuming trading ETH.

So there are plenty of questions: Does this spell the end of Ethereum? Is it just a growing pain? Does it damage the platform’s promise? Can the hole the hackers exploited be permanently patched?
One of the other cofounders of Ethereum is Joseph Lubin, who is also the founder of the East Williamsburg-based ConsenSys. If you are a devotee of Ethereum or just have an interest in the blockchain, this is a highly recommended event.

It will take place Wednesday, June 29 at ConsenSys — 49 Bogart St. — from 6-8 p.m. The first hour will be a Q & A on ConsenSys and Ethereum and the second hour will be discussions and networking.
