The Wonder Wheel at Coney Island, as seen from Sky Tech One's drone.

While the FAA drags its feet on rules around the use of drones, filmmakers are going ahead and putting the devices into the wild, regardless. In fact, some people working in film do have a green light from the regulator at this point, but it’s limited.
Here’s a very short video that Sky Tech One Aerial Photography made of Coney Island. It was made as part of Sky Tech One’s stunning Aerial NYC, a longer video that explores many parts of New York, including some unique views of the island where Cornell’s Technion campus is coming together.
We reached out to Sky Tech One to find out if they have one of the coveted aerial permits, but we haven’t heard back yet. If you like this, our Baltimore office posted a great video of a similar tour of Charm City. If you’re not at work, here’s a steamier work of drone cinematography shot by a local company.
