Taxi-sharing app Bandwagon will rep NYC at ‘Challenge Cup’

Based at NYU-Poly's Urban Future Lab, the recently funded taxi-sharing startup is headed to D.C. for the national round of the Challenge Cup, a search for startups with promise to solve real-world problems.

Early-stage business demo events ought to be a place where products are on display for their real world practicality. That’s not always the case, but at an event held by D.C. incubator 1776, Brooklyn’s own Bandwagon, which facilitates the sharing of taxicabs, could be praised for just that.

Part of NYU-Poly’s Urban Future Lab, the startup won a chance to compete at the Challenge Cup, a now annual, international contest that will feature 64 startups from 16 cities vying for $650,000 in final prizes in D.C. next May.

Bandwagon raised $425,000 earlier this month.

“New York City has become a leading hub for innovators who are leveraging their creativity to drive positive change in complex, entrenched industries,” said Donna Harris, cofounder of 1776, in a release.
