Jonnie Hallman is working on a new app for cataloging objects and tagging them with metadata for iOS. It’s called Chroma.

We’ve been following the work of Jonnie Hallman pretty closely, ever since we first covered the Studiomates barista and Oak Studios developer.

So, for example, if you ever wanted to “collect” interesting rocks you found on your hikes through natural parks, but don’t actually want to lug them around, you could make yourself a virtual collection on Chroma and log exactly where the next person could find that same rock.

Or you could build a collection of weird vintage toys you found at flea market without making your spouse crazy by cluttering up your garage because you wouldn’t have to actually buy the stuff.

You can sign up to get an announcement when the app is available at the bottom of the app page.

When Hallman announced it on Twitter, he drew attention to one cool effect on the announcement page. Notice how when you scroll down under the heading “Capture an object from every angle” you can see the shell blurry in the background, from different angles, but the one that pops up on the mobile in the center is in focus. The angle changes as you scroll up or down, responsively.
