United Wind raises $800K in equity [Startup Roundup]

Who’s Getting Money?

Dumbo’s United Wind raised $700,000 in equity funding, according to an SEC filing. That total was upped by $92,500 in a followup filing eight days later. United Wind formed after a merger of Talco Electronics (a wind turbine maker) and Wind Analytics last year, according to its about page.

Who’s Getting Buzz?

Contently‘s blog, The Freelance Strategist, calls Dumbo’s Narrative.ly one of the three hottest journalism startups, after their appearance at a recent conference at Columbia University’s journalism school. We covered Narrative.ly‘s west coast expansion last week.

Some new Brooklyn firms we hadn’t come across — such as Dirty Yoga, posting a selection of yoga videos by subscription; Joios, organizing events and building an app to help people find artisan foods and satire site The Reductress — all appear in a giant Roundup of Startups in The L Magazine. Also included, several startups that we’ve covered, such as Makers Row, Good Eggs, the Beam Center and The Atavist.

Who’s making moves?

Burn Note sent an email around to users letting them know some big new updates are coming. For now, the big news is that you can now use the app on wifi only Nexus 7 tablets. We covered the private texting system last year.
