Designer leaves Helsinki, returns to Williamsburg

Bryan Boyer works for Dash Marshall, the small architecture firm that is designing Makeshift Brooklyn (the crowdfunding we recently profiled). Boyer is also a cofounder of the new Williamsburg business.

In Helsinki, Finland, Boyer worked for Sitra, an innovation agency that reported to parliament, as one of the first designers it had ever hired. He was able to use his design skills to work on issues like climate change and welfare services. Archinect has an interview with him up now where he describes his transition from architect to entrepreneur, and why he came back to the states:

After five years with Sitra establishing Helsinki Design Lab, doing projects like Open Kitchen,Brickstarter, Low2No and writing a couple books, I decided that it was time for me to move back to the states to be closer to family, friends, and fresh avocados.
