David Ehrenberg: NYCEDC’s real estate man to lead Brooklyn Navy Yard

David Ehrenberg will take over as Executive Director at the nonprofit Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation.

Mr. Ehrenberg served most recently as co-head of the real estate department at the Economic Development Corp., where he worked on marquee projects. He helped oversee the bidding bid process for what eventually became Cornell’s tech campus planned for Roosevelt Island. He also shepherded plans for a new Memorial Sloan Kettering/CUNY medical facility on the Upper East Side and served as the city’s point person on the 22-acre Atlantic Yards development.

Mr. Ehrenberg also has industry cred, getting his hands dirty with the redevelopment of the Hunts Point produce market in the Bronx. He negotiated dozens of smaller mom-and-pop projects on various industrial sites controlled by the city. He was also the Economic Development Corp.’s liaison with the city’s Industrial Development Agency.

A Brooklyn native, Ehrenberg worked for South Brooklyn Legal Services before joining NYCEDC. The move can show the advancement of the Navy Yard’s case to be a city-wide player through a bolstered Brooklyn industrial engine.

After the much celebrated eight years of work by Andrew Kimball, who left in June, the Navy Yard is giving the reins to someone involved in large-scale built environment work throughout the city.

As for Kimball, he is now part of a new deal to take over Brooklyn’s Industry City. If the deal goes through, it could put Kimball in charge of a new industrial re-imagining.
