Giving Tuesday is a day of generosity, with nonprofits organizing campaigns for donations happening around the world. The coordinated day of giving offers a way to support organizations doing good work in communities, serving as the benevolent counterpart to the more consumer-focused Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

For those looking to give back locally on this global day, here are a handful of campaigns from within the Baltimore tech community that not only solve societal ills but create and fund orgs that do more of the same. Though they’re timed around this one day, nonprofits are always accepting donations.

Innovation Works

The org bringing a resource network to socially impactful businesses is applying donations from Giving Tuesday to the Frank Knott Founders Fund. The fund provides microgrants to pre-launch social enterprises in the Innovation Works ecosystem.

The org is also highlighting the virtual food drive for the Maryland Food Bank, which is being run on the tech platform Fenly.

The organization focused on mobilizing the networks of Black led nonprofits is raising money towards microgrants towards Black-led nonprofits in Baltimore by setting aside 20% of sales from its Giving Tuesday shop. There’s also a campaign underway toward funding Black women changemakers in Greater Baltimore with the “We got your back” campaign.

The computer science education nonprofit recently moved into a new headquarters in Station North at the former O’Dell’s nightclub, and is accepting housewarming gifts. It’s the home of programming that includes the after school Prodigy program, which is currently accepting applications.

Digital Harbor Foundation

This year, the tech education nonprofit is campaigning for general donations to its Federal Hill Tech Center to support its maker education programming, which is kicking back into full gear.

Open Works

Donations received by the Station North makerspace will help to fund scholarships to make tools and training accessible. It set a goal of $1,300 by day’s end.

Ingenuity Project

The nonprofit runs an instructional program in STEM disciplines for students that spans grades 6-12, and offers a chance to work inside some of Baltimore’s emerging companies and prepare for the next step.

Johns Hopkins Social Innovation Lab

The JHU accelerator supporting social impact-focused ventures from the Baltimore community is raising funds to support mission-driven entrepreneurs. It comes as a new cohort of ventures is just getting programming underway.

Baltimore Corps

The equity-focused organization runs fellowship programs, which provide students and professionals the opportunity to gain public service experience in a mayoral office, Baltimore agency or at local nonprofits. It’ll use the donations to put more people power behind social enterprises across the city.
