Events Roundup: The inaugural Good Game Fest is coming to Westminster this September

Just like that, Labor Day is around the corner to mark the end of summer. And with the rise in breakthrough cases, you might be feeling an extra urgency to appreciate any in-person events happening now, because they’re by no means guaranteed for the fall.

One big one that just came across our desk: the inaugural Good Game Fest, a gaming festival and conference from Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory (aka MAGIC), Tables and Towers and Save Point. The event will be held at Westminster’s TownMall and include a free-play retro arcade, console tournaments, gaming industry conferences, game jams, board game workshops and more.

“The purpose of Good Game Fest is to promote healthy gaming attitudes,” MAGIC Executive Director Graham Dodge said in a statement. “We want to highlight the different career paths that a passion for gaming can lead to in esports and the gaming industry.”

Attendees can also expect to hear from speakers such as Doug Whatley, the CEO of Breakaway Games, and Riot Games’ Greg Street, the former lead developer from World of Warcraft and League of Legends — and a McDaniel College alumni. It’s all happening Sept. 24 to 26.

The conference addresses university-based entrepreneurship programs with the goal to collaborate on best practices, develop programs and initiatives to teach the entrepreneurs of the future.
