Cybrary is officially moving into a new office in College Park.

The cybersecurity training and professional development company cut the ribbon on a new HQ at 4600 River Road on Wednesday, in a ceremony attended by leaders including Maryland Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz and University of Maryland College Park President Dr. Darryll J. Pines.

As Cybrary opens the 28,000-square-foot facility, the 90-employee company it is expanding the footprint for companies in the Discovery District, a 150-acre area that seeks to colocate academic researchers with startups and larger businesses around the University of Maryland.

“We’re investing in our own people, but we’re also going to be investing in people that want to come to the region,” UMD’s Pines said of the university and Discovery District expansion plans. “We have a lot of things in the works. You are the anchor, though. You are the biggest thing here for us, next to the government entities…you’ve decided to stay here. And I think it’s going to be something really exciting as it evolves in the next five years.”

Among the office’s amenities? A recording studio space where Cybray will produce much of its podcast, video and course content. But the location also made a difference, as it will seek to expand for the future.

“This is a very strategic location for businesses and I emphasize that a ton any time I get the chance to talk to somebody,” Cybrary CEO Ryan Corey said at the opening. “We’re here because of that great location, the vision that [Discovery District lead Ken Ulman] was able to spell out for us, we took and bit into, and actually we’ve seen that vision really come to fruition in getting people excited to work here, at this company, but more so next to the university here where there are so many cool amenities and things that are happening and going on.”

The opening of this office has been a few years in the making. Originally based in Greenbelt, Cybrary initially announced plans to relocate to College Park in late 2018. In 2019, it moved into the area at a separate College Park location while the building that houses the office was being built. Technically, it moved into the office in November 2020, but like many companies, it has had employees working from home. About 70 employees are local to the DMV, and will be able to work in the office as COVID protocols allow.

Key to the expansion for Cybrary is continuing job creation. As a company, it also seeks to train others for the cyber workforce, which notoriously has many more jobs open than ready employees trained to fill them.

“Everybody has had a stake in what has been able to become the success of Cybrary,” said Maryland Commerce Secretary Schulz. “We talked initially about the importance of workforce development for our growing and our budding cyber universe and our ecosystem here in the State of Maryland. And it has been such an integral part of who we are, and you guys pushed and made it a part of who we are in the State of Maryland when it comes to our cyber presence.”
