This Week in Jobs: In This Together Edition

Jobs, resources and more.

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

Here for Each Other

Our team at Technically Media and TWIJ is here for you: We’ll be posting updates on responses to the coronavirus, with a particular focus on the info that’s most helpful to business owners, leaders and our tech communities. That includes things like Startup Soiree’s forums for business leaders (more details below), offers of free internet plans and lifting caps on data, and more.

The News

The Steel City is getting its moment in the spotlight: This month, Technically Media is launching a yearlong reporting effort, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Innovation District, to chronicle the economic change taking place in Pittsburgh. That includes debuting a Pittsburgh edition of our popular newsletter, This Week in Jobs (ahem), monthly deep-dive reporting into the city’s profound economic transformations — especially its booming tech and biomedical sectors — and much more. Read all about it here.

You can keep your money: Technically Media’s monthly membership program is now entirely free! We’ve long set our sights on being your ally for advancing your career and finding opportunities through our events, services and local business journalism. And we’ve realized that a paid membership program doesn’t fit as comfortably as we’d like. So what can you do to help us, now that we cost as much as tap water? Take our Technical.ly Employment Survey. Tell us where you are in your career path — and become a member with early access to our events and more.

You probably saw this coming, but we’re still sufficiently bummed: To do our part in flattening the curve of the coronavirus, we’re canceling the NET/WORK DC event. Rest assured, if you bought a ticket, your refund will be processed immediately. More info here.

The economic impact of coronavirus is inflicting particular pain on small businesses. If you’re in the Baltimore area, Startup Soiree is offering small businesses space for dialogue and resources amid the pandemic. Check out Soiree’s online channels for help and insight on specific industries, plus resources and advice. Feel free to offer your expertise, too. “This is a place to expound on your issues, to offer support and ideas to fellow business owners, to share resources, and most of all, to help each other,” cofounders Nic China and Patrick Rife said.

The End

We’re in this coronavirus chaos together, so let’s stay smart, friends.  Follow guidance from local, state and federal health officials, don’t sleep on social distancing, and check in (digitally!) on your friends and loved ones. And if you have time or need a break, consider taking our Technical.ly Employment Survey; it’ll help us focus on crafting the types of content that’ll best serve you in the weeks and months ahead. In the meantime, stay healthy and well.
