Ferment to be together

Yeah, yeah, Old Bay, crab cakes, Berger cookies, Natty Boh — they all make the table at a Baltimore-themed Thanksgiving dinner. But you can stick with the classics while still repping Charm City by including  a heaping helping of Baltimore-made sauerkraut.

Obviously great on hot-dogs and sausage, the fermented, fragrant cabbage — brought over by the region’s German and Polish immigrants — also pairs great with turkey. And, as if you need another reason, it’s a probiotic that’ll help you digest the mountains of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and stuffing you also just ate.

Just don’t tell us if you sprinkle it atop your apple and pecan pies. Ick.

The News

Kombucha, coworking and even a Middle East peace plan. To wrap up 2019, your friends at Technical.ly are looking back at this year’s office trends — including, yes, the self-immolation of WeWork (at the hands of its $60 million jet-buying, aspiring global peacemaker ex-CEO Adam Neumann) — and we need your help. Have an idea for a trend we should cover — perhaps, interesting uses of physical office spaces, cultural dynamics and best practices? If you’ve seen something we should check out or highlight, give us a shout.

Lyft’s latest advisory council has launched in the District. The 15-member panel, featuring everyone from &pizza cofounder Andy Hooper to National Coalition of 100 Black Women President Ayris Scales to AARP exec Staci Alexander, will offer its advice on how to make city life better, more inclusive, more equitable and more sustainable in the nation’s capital. The program is part of Lyft’s City Works program, which is being funded by either $50 million or 1% of the company’s profits, whichever is the larger amount. If the council can also give some advice to the Wizards, we’ll count that as progress.
