Protenus’ Fells Point office has room to stretch out

With harbor views and hammocks, the move to the Browns Wharf space provides the growing team areas to work away from a desk.

With expansion, Protenus recently moved to new offices in Fells Point.

The healthcare analytics company moved into a 12,000-square-foot office space that’s roughly triple the size of its previous location, according to People Operations Associate Samantha Barber, who gave us a recent tour.

The space covers the entire second floor of a building at Browns Wharf, which has the cobblestone of Thames Street on one side and a view of the harbor on the other.

The office design emphasizes an open feel, with lots of natural light. Protenus’ team worked with architecture and branding agency Clockwork. When team members want to move away from desk space, there are plenty of meeting rooms, as well as common areas like couches and booths in the kitchen area. One of the most eye-catching areas offers space to stretch out on a hammock.

The move was initially announced in January by real estate company JLL, whose Brendan Lough and Peter Jackson represented Protenus. The company is one of a group that have grown in the city after completing Dreamit Health Baltimore.

The location marks a return to Thames Street for the company. Cofounders Nick Culbertson and Robert Lord, who met while attending medical school at Johns Hopkins University, initially worked out of space at nearby Bond Street Wharf in 2014.

“We are excited to be back in the neighborhood where it all began and are looking forward to our continued growth in our new space,” said Kira Caban, the company’s director of strategic communications.

On Wednesday, the latest example of that growth came as the company announced a new hire with roots in Baltimore’s tech community. Don Kennedy, who served in key leadership roles at Advertising.com and AOL over 15 years, joined Protenus as chief revenue officer. Kennedy will lead the company’s revenue team while identifying new opportunities for its product suite.
