These 6 startups are entering Accelerate Baltimore 2019

The companies entering the 13-week program are taking new approaches to coffee, car washes and more.

The next class of startups in Accelerate Baltimore are looking to deliver coffee, car washes and origami.

After reviewing applications, Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) on Thursday named the 2019 cohort for its seed accelerator program.

Startups who enter the program receive $25,000 in seed funding. Over the next 13 weeks, the six startup teams will also get access to weekly programming. According to ETC, this year’s sessions are based around the book Burn the Business Plan, authored by former Kaufmann Foundation President Carl Schramm. The members of the cohort will hear from local entrepreneurs who offer a personal perspective on one of the books 12 concepts. Startups also receive executive coaching and more than 16 mentors. They also get access to Pitch Creator, a tool that helps founders prep to present to investors.

It’s all leading up to the investor pitch night, which will close out the cohort in April. At the event, one startup will get $100,000 in additional funding, following in the footsteps of last year’s winner IsItGood.

Here’s a look at this year’s cohort, with info from ETC:

Blood Sweat and Gears: The startup created an automated product that spreads salt or ice melt on paths during winter months. The product can also be used in warmer weather to spread fertilizer, feed and more.

Gamia monthly origami subscription service, providing a package including papers, instruction booklet and scannable video instructions. It’s designed for beginners look for an intro to the art of paper folding.

Mojoe Brewing: The company makes a travel-sized, portable coffee brewer. It heats water and uses capsules to prepare a cup of coffee. Then, it doubles as a mug.

ReVased, an online marketplace that provides a way to repurpose flower arrangements used at weddings so they are not thrown away immediately after the event. It creates connections between people getting married, local florists and local charities.

Spotswash, an app-based car wash and detail service providing service at residential and commercial buildings with parking garages while customers are at work or asleep.

Vagrant Coffee: The company’s app-based service allows customers to request a mobile cafe at their location, and provides a “carista” with built in espresso bar in the back of a MINI Cooper.
