Canada’s Logistec expands in Baltimore with water technology center

With the new center at UMBC's Columbus Center, Logistec Corporation will conduct research focused on infrastructure and the environment.

A Montreal, Canada–based company with a longstanding presence at the Port of Baltimore is extending its footprint in the city with a new center focused on sustainable water technology.
On Thursday, officials with the Logistec Corporation were in town to cut the ribbon on the center inside Inner Harbor’s Columbus Center. It extends a partnership between the company and the State of Maryland, and company leaders were joined by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Secretary of Commerce Mike Gill and other Maryland officials.

Operated by Logistec subsidiary Sanexen, the water technology center will house research and interaction with water industry stakeholders as the company looks to develop new ways to protect water infrastructure and the environment, according to the companies.
“Our common ambition is to build on the leadership role Maryland has taken in this vital sector and create a leading platform to deploy technology to protect the U.S. water infrastructure,” Madeleine Paquin, President and CEO of Logistec, said in a statement.
Logistec’s presence in Maryland dates to 1990, according to Paquin. That’s when the company entered the Port of Baltimore as owner of BalTerm, which handles imported forest products. State officials including Hogan and Gill also visited Canada last year as part of a trade mission, where Hogan said Paquin gave a testimonial about the partnership.
“We are pleased to see Sanexen Water selected our state for their new technology center, which will definitely help Marylandcontinue to lead the charge when it comes to protecting our drinking water and the environment,” Hogan said in a statement.
Columbus Center is also home to the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, and played host to this week’s Aqua Tech Ideation Challenge as part of Baltimore Innovation Week.
