Wednesday: See how the pieces of Baltimore’s biohealth community fit together

A startup can begin with a single idea, but there are many considerations toward helping it grow. For early-stage companies in biohealth, there are some specific considerations. Lab space is needed for research. It’s necessary to be aware of regulatory requirements set out by agencies like the Food and Drug Administration. To get a medical device or drug made, there are also potentially manufacturing needs.
As we’ve covered in recent years, these resources are growing in Baltimore alongside universities and medical systems who are looking to stimulate startups. This week, a discussion at the Lifebridge Health Bioincubator will provide a look at the different parts of the community. The panel, titled “Startup Innovation: The Critical (Yet Often Overlooked) Players Needed for Success,” is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on August 29 at Sinai Hospital’s Zamoiski Auditorium.
Sinai Hospital’s bioincubator opened in 2016, offering lab space and resources to companies within the North Baltimore institution. Along with startups, it also houses a location of contract research organization Noble Life Sciences. The event is part of its Distinguished Speaker Series. The panel includes a look at others across town like Harbor Designs and Manufacturing, which has a growing manufacturing facility in Pigtown that’s frequented by medical device startups.
