Members of the military spending a layover in BWI’s USO lounge now have a delivery option.
On July 1, in-airport delivery service Airport Sherpa recently expanded service to the 5,000 sq. ft. space, through a partnership with military services nonprofit USO Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, which operates the area.
Airport Sherpa arrived at BWI last year, and dispatches “Sherpas” to bring travelers items from the airport’s restaurants and other vendors who order via app.
“Our servicemen and women often leave for months at a time, so we feel honored that we can now deliver what they want directly to the lounge, from great food to forgotten items and gifts,” Airport Sherpa CEO Patrick DellaValle said in a statement.
The USO lounge is in the area before security, so the app offers a way to get food that’s on the other side of the line. Airport Sherpa also notes that military members and their families utilizing the lounge often have long layovers.
“In the short time since the partnership has launched, dozens of servicemembers and their families have enjoyed deliveries from Airport Sherpa,” said Airport Sherpa Head of Public Relations Jaclyn Boschetti. “We expect the growth to continue given the great feedback we have from the USO and the servicemembers.”
It’s the first site where Airport Sherpa launched delivery at a USO Lounge. According to USO, the lounge is one of the busiest in the country, used by 80,000 people a year.-30-
