Baltimore-based game studio Mohawk Games said it signed a distribution deal with Sweden-based publisher Starbreeze Games for a new 4X strategy game.
The new project, which is currently in the prototyping stage, has the working title “10 Crowns,” which a release describes as an epic-scale turn-based strategy game that lets players create the greatest dynasty in world history.”
Mohawk Games is led by veterans of the Civilization series, which was developed by Sparks-based Firaxis Games and continues to have heavy influence on the area’s game devs. The team helming the new project includes Soren Johnson, who was lead designer of Civilization IV and is CEO of Mohawk Games, and Civilization V art director Dorian Newcomb.

“Everyone here at Mohawk is very excited to work with Starbreeze on 10 Crowns, going back to our game development roots to make a classic historical 4X strategy game with some important and radical innovations to the genre,” Johnson said. “I look forward to sharing more about the design with the strategy game community and involving them in development as early as possible.”
Mohawk Games was founded in 2013 and previously created Offworld Trading Company.
