Accelerator program for creative entrepreneurs opens applications

Creative entrepreneurs can apply for a program that provides eight months of resources to help build businesses.
The Baltimore Creatives Acceleration Network, which was launched earlier this year by MICA, is set to begin a pilot of its Founder Fellowship next year.
As Executive Director Maggie Villegas told us earlier this year, BCAN is looking to help artists, designers and other entrepreneurs that stretch throughout the city, and fall outside the community of MICA students and alumni. Villegas said the accelerator would be among the early moves from the 10-year initiative.
The program, which starts in March 2018, is looking to line up resources to help the businesses expand. According to an email announcement, it’s partnering with a program called Creative Startups to provide an accelerator program. There is also access to mentors and pro bono legal services through DLA Piper and the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
From June-November 2018, fellows will also get a six-month residency at one of Baltimore’s incubator hubs, including Betamore, Emerging Technology Centers, Eubie Blake Jazz & Cultural Center, Impact Hub or Open Works.
There will also be a chance to pitch investors for $15,000 in seed funding at a demo day.
Fellows don’t have to pay for the program, but will be required to “pay it forward” by developing a community workshop.
