Following an expansion of its data center in South Baltimore last year, TierPoint said Tuesday it is planning to build a second facility in the Baltimore area.
The 35,000 sq. ft. commercial data center will be within BWI Technology Park in Linthicum. The company is initially investing $10 million into the project, which is expected to open in 2018.
The data center will provide connectivity to IT services, including high-speed internet, for businesses. Offices and shared workspace will also be available for clients.
The company is looking to work with tech businesses.
“The new data center allows us to respond to growing demand in the Baltimore/Washington DC region, including from the rapidly growing number of information and cybersecurity firms in the BWI corridor,” TierPoint Vice President and General Manager Jim Weller said in a statement. “In addition to the robust power and dense fiber optic connectivity available in the area, the location is easily accessible for current and future customers.”
TierPoint grew its existing data center near M&T Bank Stadium by 10 percent last year. The St. Louis–based company operates a total of 40 data centers around the country.
