Comcast plans to roll out faster internet in the Baltimore area in the coming weeks.
The company plans to introduce 1-gigabit-per-second internet service for residential customers, with the service rolling out throughout the summer, according to spokeswoman Eliza Findlay.
The speed of the service “will be among the fastest and most widely available,” the company said. The price is listed at $104.95/month.
The service does not require additional installation of communication lines, as it relies onĀ DOCSIS 3.1 technology that is already available in most homes, Findlay said. However, residents will have to upgrade modems.
Comcast’s gigabit service is also rolling out in cities like Boston, D.C. and Philly, among others in the mid-Atlantic.
Internet service speeds were a frequent topic amid talks to improve broadband in Baltimore in recent years.
